Heinrich Baumgarten

Subjects Are Objects

Look into my face whenever we're talking.
What do you see when you look at my face?
Go next to me wherever we're walking.
Keep up with me, keep on in the race.

Listen to my words whatever I'm saying.
What do you hear when you listen to me?
Don't ever ask me what or why we're playing.
Don't trust your eyes, don't believe what you see.

Do what I do and whatever I'm telling.
What do you think could be better for you?
Follow your orders, submit to the yelling
Of those who know better, subordinates, too.

Look at them listening and doing their duty.
What do you think can you lose giving in?
Being obedient makes love's labour fruity.
Then drown your bad conscience in whisky and gin.
