A Bunch of Flowers
I took the summer home into my city
with grass and flowers from the field.
Their different colours were just pretty
and to their fragrance I did yield.
The blue and red and gold of path and meadow
stand in the jar to share their scent.
They glow vivacious through the shadow
before in soft decay they’ll bend.
A busy ant unnoticed came with them
to run across the table cloth.
A caterpillar feeds from a leaf’s hem.
When I look closer now I see a hidden moth.
I took the summer home to cheer me up,
to make life in streets’ abysses light.
I took the summer home to drink the cup
of peaceful joy before the night.
