There once lived a beautiful girl -
Who sat on a rock and combed her hair.
And she enticed the Rhine seamen into a swirl,
Where they drowned in bloody despair.
Her name was Lorelei and her seat's ambush cliff -
I hear her lullaby - and away is my miff.
And she sang on that stone, this craggy throne
Like a sirene who is chilled to the bone.
Jack Tar went to Davy Jone's locker -
Who once was a cheerful old docker.
He was lured to shipwreck on a reef,
And was doomed to failure, and brought to grief.
The seamen had not the least chance -
to cast a glance at her.
Instead they went into a trance -
Went down, and did never recur!
She soon had enough of her magic -
and this was so awfully tragic.
She jumped to her death, straight into the Rhine -
And if you listen you hear her heart-rending whine.
