Lady Frigg and Her Little Hound

The plague had entered through the door,
it took the child, the cow and more
The cat was swept away as well,
the farmer’s pain was hard to tell

He sat in silence by the flame
Yuletides storms with power came
The winds they howled around the house
and scared the farmer and his spouse

The door flew wide with dreadful sound,
but in the cold, no fiends were found,
just one small pup, forlorn and thin,
the woman gently took him in

From that day forth, a tender light
shone warm and kind through day and night
For one whole year, they lived as three
in peace and homely harmony

Then came the time when all things rest
Three knocks upon the door - which guest?
The farmer knew what this might mean
and opened to the sky-born queen

She said: "I seek my little hound,
I lost last year and now I've found
You've taken care, you meant no wrong
Your hearts were kind, your bond is strong

So I bestow my blessing now:
your farm shall thrive, I make this vow”
Then Frigg called out, the dog returned
He leapt with joy as if he 'd yearned

The new year brought a golden yield
The curse was gone, the wounds were healed
With calves and piglets, wealth was spun
and last of all, they had a son!
