Highway Markers

As I drive down the road, I pass the
Markers one by one, never giving a thought,
If they represent someone's mother, father,
Daughter or son,
As I drive down the road, I pass the
Markers one by one, maybe focused
On my job or some future
Evening's fun
As I drive down the road, I pass the
Markers one by one, never noticing
How some are fresh and some are
Old, decayed, dead, done
As I am driven down the road, my mother
Places a marker for me, for a drunk driver
Stuck me from behind and smashed me into
The tree,
So as you drive down the road, pay respect
To the markers, and the stories that are told.
