Handle with Care
Love is a present
you get unexpected
and without reason.
It is to be handled with utmost care
like a fragile flower of glass or
a silvery veil of cobwebs.
Don’t let it drop,
don’t pull at the edges,
don’t poke into it
out of curiosity.
Never love will reveal the secret
why it came,
why it stays on,
will never permit the question
about its creation and decline.
Love will not recover
when curious eyes or senseless hands
have hurt it.
You are allowed only
to take or to resent
this precious gift.
But don’t dare
to play for a while
and put it away
when you get a new toy.
Love will take revenge.
You’ll be stigmatized forever
as one not being able
even to love yourself.
